Dinosaurs Alive Exhibition

Friday 11 February to Sunday 8 May 2005

Royal Museum of Scotland

Chambers Street

Edinburgh

Tyrannosaurus Rex, one of the fiercest land creatures in prehistory, is just one of the dinosaurs featured in Dinosaurs Alive!, the next major exhibition at the Royal Museum. This exciting animatronics exhibition will provide a lively insight into the smelly, noisy, dangerous and fascinating world of dinosaurs.

Aimed particularly at children and families, Dinosaurs Alive! will give a glimpse of what life was like for our prehistoric predecessors. Although no-one has ever seen a living dinosaur, decades of research have given an idea not only of how they looked, but also how they moved. From small herbivores such as Scutellosaurus, the weight of a small dog, through to massive carnivores such as Tyrannosaurus, the exhibition offers the chance to go on safari and meet some of the most awesome creatures that ever roamed the Earth.

Visitors will be able to see a group of horned plant-eating Triceratops trying to defend their young, a Baryonyx fishing with its claw, and a fight between two Pachycephalosaurus. There is a life-size head of a Tyrannosaurus, which features sensors and opens its huge jaws as people approach, and a Dilophosaurus – a relative of the first dinosaur found in Scotland – attacking its prey.

Dinosaurs Alive! is a touring exhibition from the Natural History Museum in London. The National Museums of Scotland has given the exhibition a special setting for its Scottish showing.
