A Scottish Wedding
In September I received a phone call from my friend David who lives and works in Watford.
He phoned me up to tell me that his nephew Christopher was getting married at Bonnyrigg Parish Church in October and that I had been invited to the wedding, and that I would be receiving an invitation in due course.
Having known David for over thirty years and gone along the bumpy roads of life with him through some of that period in time, I was delighted at the news because there's maybe still a little bit of the old sentimentalist still left in me.
The invitation came and I met David at the railway station when he arrived as he was staying with me from the Friday to the Monday. We met up with Christopher at the station and went for a few drinks and a meal before calling it a night at around Midnight.
On Saturday David and I got prepared for the wedding by going for a good breakfast in a cafe before going back to my house to get shaved and dressed for the wedding.
From there it was into a taxi to pick up David's partner for the wedding who was staying in a hotel which was not far from my house. And from the hotel, it was off to Bonnyrigg for the wedding.
Christopher, Bob, Christopher's father Fred and mother Brenda, Anne and Jeff, Paul, Stephen, David and other relations and friends had started to gathered in a bar lounge until it was time to go to the church for service.

The groom and the best man made their way too the church so that the minister of the church could talk to them about the service and explain to them how the service would be conducted.
Later on, relations, friends and guests started to arrive at the Bonnyrigg Parish Church for the service. Once inside the church they waited in anticipation to see the bride who they had not seen before the service.
Outside the church the wedding car arrived with the bride, the bridesmaids, the pages and her father who was giving her away. The look on the brides face made it clear that this was going to be one of the happiest days in her life along with Christopher's.

The minister of the church went to the doors of the church and led the bride with her father on her arm, the bridesmaids and the pages followed behind down the aisle of the church to the alter, where the service was conducted.
Christopher and Lisa signed the register and were pronounced man and wife to the delight of all in the church.

On leaving the church it was time for the photographs and congratulations from the relations and friends. Christopher organised the photographs and the people who were to be photographed with who. This was their day, and it was a day that they wanted to remember with fond memories.

Off to the wedding reception in style
The relations saw the newly-weds off in their car as they made their way for the reception, the wedding meal, the cutting of the cake and a dance with a drink.
The Chase Bar in Bonnyrigg had a large functions hall which had been laid out with tables for the wedding meal which was well prepared and with good service. Having a bar in the functions hall was a good idea, and it was very handy as the day started to move along quite quickly into night - it always does when you're having a good time and catching up with the gossip.
The speeches were made by both fathers after the meal and the cards and messages from well wishers were read out by the best man Bob before a toast was held for the couple wishing them both all the best for the future.

With formalities out of the way, the table were cleared away for the evening reception where friends of the newly-weds had been invited to help finish the night off with the disco which was now being set up.
While the disco was being set up, it gave Christopher a chance to arrange some more photographs of his family before they left Scotland to go back home. This was a chance for all the relations and friends to gather and talk over a drink.

As the night drew to a close the cake was cut and the night started to wind down even though the drink was still flowing freely from the taps behind the bar.
Around ten at night, David, Sue and I decided it was time to depart and wish the couple all the best for the future, and to thank them for their hospitality on their special day.
