Being There for Waverley Care by Stanley Reilly

Reading the Book Being There
Stanley Reilly through Waverley Care has run an exhibition and produced a book with photographs of the 1960s and 1970s with all the proceeds going to Waverley Care.
The book called Being There is an excellent piece of work and can be obtained through Waverley Care - an HIV charity.

Charity Auction of Stanley Reilly's Pictures
On Sunday 28 November 2004, a charity auction was held in the restaurant of Harvey Nichol's store in St Andrew's square. Stanley Reilly who works for Waverley Care as a volunteer had decided awhile back, to donate some of the photographs he had taken in London to the charity that he works for.
The story is an interesting one as a book called 'Being There' was published and released with photographs that he had taken in London in 1960's and 1970's. You name the big stars, and he had met and photographed them.
Last year the book was launched and an exhibition of his photographs went round the country. These were the photographs that were being auctioned at Harvey Nichols. This was the day of conclusion when the auction was stated with a top auctioneer and other people giving up their Sunday night to make sure that all went well.
By the time the auction had started, there were about 80 to 100 people who had passed through the doors. And there were more outside who didn't get in. They had gone to the front door of the store instead of the side door, thus missing the chance to bid for Stanley's work.
The bidding started fiercely and continued that way all night as the pictures were sold off one by one. The people who were there knew exactly what they wanted.
The most interesting part of this story is that every penny that is made from the books and the auction is going to Waverley Care. No wonder Harvey Nichol's store named Stanley Reilly and Waverley Care their charity of the year. This was for a good cause and a lot of people behind the scenes gave their time and a lot of effort to get this project moving. When the final figures are given as to what Stanley has raised for Waverley Care I will update this section with these figures.
