This evening of maritime adventure also includes John McLeod's NYOS commissioned symphonic poem for orchestra, The Gokstad Ship, inspired by the intriguing and fascinating history of the Vikings and the discovery of one of their sacred burial chambers.

Director: William Conway
Repertoire:
Luigi Dallapiccola Tre Laudi
This is the latest instalment of the NYOS Futures series of concerts which explore fascinating pieces of contemporary music. NYOS Futures will explore an early work by Luigi Dalapiccola, the most innovative composer to emerge from the Italian Facist regime. A profound sensitivity of human needs and a mastery of compositional technique are the two overriding characteristics of the music of Luigi Dallapiccola. Dallapiccola observed and reacted to life about him, life during an era of political and social upheaval, but his Tre Laudi is a work with a more spiritual than political dimension.
