Beating Retreat at St Giles Cathedral

Beating Retreat has its origins in a time long past with the beating the retreat with drums or the playing of bugles or trumpets.  The Retreat was called at the end of the day in war and fighting, and the return to camp, the lowering of colours and the mounting of the guard.  Edinburgh still has Beating Retreat ceremonies at Edinburgh Castle throughout the summer that the visitors to Edinburgh can attend.

The Beating Retreat and the taking of the salute on this video were taken on West Parliament Square outside St Giles Cathedral and it is a colourful event of Pipes, Drums and band.  This video shows a full Beating Retreat  and has thirty minutes of unedited footage.
