City Life in Edinburgh

The Prime Minister and his wife have visited this city a number of times where they have enjoyed the summer fair in the Grassmarket.

But at the same time there are not many cities that do not have some kind of serious side to them somewhere.  Edinburgh is no different to this way of life.

As a vibrant city, memorial services are held at different times of the year.  Included in this section are some of the memorial services and other events that the city has held along with its many other events.

City life to me is about tradition.  This is where we remember past and present conflicts and where we honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

It’s also a city where leaders from all over the world come to see Scotland’s new parliament and to see how it was set up and how it works.

St Giles Cathedral in the Old Town holds many memorial services throughout the year.  It is also where knights are ordained as Knights of The Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle.  But most importantly it’s still a place for reflection in complete tranquility.

On the Royal Mile, the European Election results are read out to the waiting politicians eager to see if they have been selected for the European Parliament, each party waiting to what the results are and if they favour them.

The Royal Scots Regiment have returned home to Edinburgh many times, and still do.  It is not uncommon to see them marching from Holyrood Palace to Edinburgh Castle.  It is always an exciting time as the people of Edinburgh turn out in large numbers to welcome them home.
