Once Scotland was famed as a seafaring nation. Boats and craft of all types have travelled all over the world from this destination.
Famed for its shipbuilding, its seamanship and fishing, Scotland has had to change with the progression of time.
Leith has been host to events such as the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race, the Festival of Sea and many other events of the sea. When one stands on Firth of Forth, craft of all kinds can still be seen moving across the waters that still link the rest of the world to the port of Leith in this city.

Would the Royal Yacht Britannia have looked right in any other place other than Leith? I think not. That’s why its final resting place is now in Leith Docks.

The history of Leith with Royalty arriving there in the past is well documented and the people who made this decision for Britannia made the right one.

Leith in the past built boats, had rope makers and had extensive whaling and fishing fleets in the past. Sadly, long gone. But Leith Docks are being rejuvenated, and a new chapter in its history is just beginning.
